Oba of Benin Palace Announces Emorho Feast
The Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, has called on community leaders across the Benin Kingdom to join him in celebrating the new yam festival with the traditional Emorho feast.
The event will take place on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the Oba’s Palace in Benin City. It will begin promptly at 1:00 p.m., according to a statement signed by Chief Efosa O. Igbinowanhia, the Obamedo of Benin and Chief Press Officer.
Role of Community Leaders in the Festival
The invitation was extended to Edionwere (village heads) and Igbama (Okaighele) from different villages in the Benin Kingdom. Their presence highlights the cultural unity between the palace and rural communities.
By gathering these leaders for the Emorho feast, the Oba of Benin emphasizes not only tradition but also the role of shared identity and respect in Edo culture.
